Spaceship iOS App

2021

The Spaceship Shipment iOS App is a product to organise and track personal shipments. Below is a brief summary of my role for this product and a gallery to showcase the key screens of the app.

My Role

Product Definition & Strategy

I collaborated with the PM to drive the product from inception to launch. This included feature scopes, success definitions and go-to-market strategy.

Content Planning & Information Architecture

I led the content planning of the app and organised the content to support the user tasks.

Interaction & Visual Design

I led and executed the design of the app. This included translating the app from requirements to UIs, setting the visual directions and detail design specs.

The Challenge – Establish Deeper Relationship with Customers

The Spaceship iOS app was born out of the need to provide a holistic support for customers who are shipping with us. As the user base grew, customer expected more supports throughout the journey. On top of this, we saw an opportunity to engage with prospects with a free-to-use tracking app.

With this new benefit, we hoped to develop a deeper relationship with both prospects and existing customers.

The Spaceship iOS App

Our vision for the iOS app was a companion app for Spaceship's core product (as oppose to a "mini version" of the core product). Our focus was to complement the core shipping experience by taking the advantage of the ubiquitous quality of a mobile app.

Track All Shipments In One Place

Users can use the app to view the status of all their personal shipments. This includes shipments that was booked via Spaceship or external shipments.

Receive Real Time Updates

Users can receive real time notifications to keep tabs on their shipments.

Get Instant Support

Customers who booked their shipments with us can get support via the app's direct chat.

The Launch

The launch of the iOS app coincided with the version update of Spaceship Web App, we used this opportunity to introduce the iOS App to our current customers.

Customer can discover the iOS App via the QR code on the Web App's confirmation screen.

The Impact – A Small Step Towards a Complete Journey

The iOS app took less than a month from inception to launch, our team was working lightening fast to deliver this additional value to our current customers.

At the time of writing (2 month after launching the app), the iOS app gained positive results in increasing customer satisfactions and customer acquisitions.

12% increase in customer satisfactions rating

8% new user signup via the mobile app

We've also received many feedbacks to provide support for multi-language and Android. This signalled an opportunity to expand this product to a larger group of audience.

Beyond supporting the post-booking journey, I also imagined the mobile app could help support customers to measure package size and declare items more accurately via image recognition and augmented reality (AR) technologies.

I believe the launch of this mobile app to be a small but important step towards to more holistic shipping experience.
